Irresolute Olimpia shipwrecked in Montevideo

The traditional teams gave life today to a new edition of this clash of pure bloodline in the colossal Campeón del Siglo stadium in Montevideo.

The Dean of Paraguayan football played a correct first half, well displayed and was superior in wide passages to the award-winning local team.

However, his possession and offensive spirit did not help him as he made mistakes and, consequently, suffered at the end of the first stage with a goal from Juan Manuel Ramos (45’+2′), which gave him the advantage -perhaps undeserved – to Peñarol.

The first champion of the Libertadores did not give rise to a prompt reaction from the fringed player since, as soon as the complementary match resumed, he struck again through former Cerro Porteño, Federico Carrizo, who signed the 2-0 at pure speed and dribbling.

The Uruguayans made the situation felt on the scoreboard and leveled the process, forcing Cáceres’ men to advance their lines and take risks.

Olimpia stayed and when she tried to shake off the pressure she did so in disorder, which detracted from her power and depth when facing goal.

The insistence paid off. Walter González, from Chile, scored the discount (80′) and gave life to Olimpia in the last minutes, but it was not enough.

Finally, the Dean made a new defeat that fuels the fire that spreads through his camp as a result of the latest presentations.

With this result, Cerro Porteño -which defeated Colón 3-1 today in the Nueva Olla-, was left as the sole leader of the group with 4 integers, closely followed by Colón (3) and Peñarol (3). Olimpia closes the table with 1 point.
