Tehran, Dec 25 (EFE).- The Revolutionary Guard of Iran reported this Sunday that it has arrested seven members of a network linked to the United Kingdom and involved in the protests in Iran, some of them with dual nationality.
The public relations of the Sarollah headquarters of the Guardians of the Kerman province, in a statement explained that the “elements of the United Kingdom” formed and directly directed the aforementioned network called “Zagros” that they had formed through the counterrevolutionaries and with the objective of directing and guide subversive plots, especially during the recent riots.
“Seven of its main elements and leaders who were inside the country and participated in the planning, orientation, content production and field actions in the recent riots were arrested,” the statement published by the official Iranian news agency IRNA indicates.
The statement underlines that “among the elements arrested, there were some with dual nationality who were trying to escape the country, but before any action, they were captured and transferred to the prison.”
The note also adds that the Guardians of the Revolution are identifying and persecuting other internal and external elements of this network.
Protests in Iran began in mid-September after the death in police custody of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman who had been arrested for wearing the Islamic headscarf incorrectly.
The Islamic Republic of Iran accuses “enemies” of instigating the protests, including the US, the UK and Saudi Arabia.
In the more than three months of protests, more than 400 people have died and at least 2,000 have been accused of various crimes for their participation in the mobilizations, of which 2 have been executed this December. EFE
