Invited by Lacalle Pou, Lula will go to Uruguay, in Paraguay they say nothing

“After accepting the president’s invitation, Luis Lacalle Pou, his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will visit Uruguay on January 25. Both foreign ministers are working on the agenda for this bilateral meeting,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed through the social network Twitter.

Lacalle Pou participated last Sunday during the inauguration ceremony of President Lula in an act in which he was also accompanied by former presidents José “Pepe” Mujica (2010-2015) and Julio María Sanguinetti (1985-1990 and 1995-2000).

Mujica told the press on that occasion that he already had a plan to go because he was “quite an old friend” of Lula and that he accepted the proposal to go with Lacalle despite their political-ideological differences because he considered that “the image of the country is what that says”.

Something similar was expressed by Lacalle Pou, who said that his invitation demonstrates an “institutional and republican democratic continuity” that in today’s world “few countries in the entire globe can show.”

The meeting will take place one day after the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) that will take place in Buenos Aires on January 24 and in which Lula will carry out his first international trip during his new term.

President Mario Abdo Benítez also participated in the investiture. He had the “purpose” of talking about the Itaipu rate, which despite the beginning of the year, is not defined. Upon his return, he did not mention any invitation or agreement for an upcoming dialogue with Lula. The Presidency simply reported that he “greeted his counterpart” and congratulated him on the third term.
