The National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima), in recent days, reported that the milk formula for babies under 12 months, produced by Abbott Laboratorieswould be voluntarily withdrawn from the market.

This product was marketed under the EleCare brands in a 400g presentation. Also by New Similac Alimentum HMO presentation 400g and Similac Human Milk Fortier presentation box of 50 sachets. All of them manufactured by Abbott.
According to Invima, they received 4 complaints from consumers in the United States, in which they reported the presence of the Cronobacter sakazakii or Salmonella Newport bacteria in minors who had consumed the formula. In this sense, the laboratory decided to make the voluntary recall.
According to the report, this bacterium can cause diarrhea and urinary infections. When consumed by babies, the infection can be serious. The Invima clarified that all the batches that entered the country of that formula were identified: both those for storage and marketing.

The products that are stored, were blocked. Those that were to be commercialized, the clients in the different cities of the country were informed so that they follow the procedure of collection of stocks.
The Abbott company has reported that this withdrawal does not affect any other Abbott Nutrition product or the Similac line that is distributed in Colombia. Along with this, Invima asks the Colombian population to refrain from purchasing this product.
Finally, consumers who have acquired it are advised to stop consuming it immediately.
