Investigation against priest Felipe Berríos adds two other complainants for acts of sexual connotation

Last week the Society of Jesus in Chile confirmed the opening of a canonical investigation against the Jesuit priest Felipe Berríos, who was denounced for acts of sexual connotation carried out when the complainant was a minor.

Today two new complaints are added, as reported by The secondafter the Foundation for Confidence continued to collect records against the Jesuit priest.

Specifically, there are four other people who have given their testimonies against the priest. According to the evening newspaper, two people will testify in favor of the first complainant and two others are added, who at the time of the reported events were between 14 and 17 years old.

A canonical investigation was opened to the priest, which is being carried out by the investigating lawyer María Elena Santibáñez, to investigate these facts.

It is worth mentioning that the family of the first complainant requested that a criminal investigation not proceed, since they consider that the issue must be resolved within the Church.

Berríos, 65, was a well-known Jesuit priest, as well as an activist, writer, columnist and founder of some NGOs such as “Techo”, a Latin American network to help the homeless.

“I will do everything that is necessary to know and clarify the origins of this complaint and I have made myself, from now on, available to the Company to clarify the facts as quickly as possible,” the religious told local media.
