International Tourism Fair will strengthen the destination Cuba

The upcoming International Tourism Fair (FITCuba-2022) will strengthen the country as a tourist destination, assured today Mario Sabines, Governor of the western province of Matanzas, host of this important commercial exchange in the sector.

From May 3 to 7, the meeting will be hosted by the renovated Plaza América and its Convention Center in the famous resort of Varadero, located on the Hicacos peninsula on the north coast of Matanzas territory, and 140 kilometers east of Havana.

The meeting will take place in a pole that includes citizen and biosanitary safety among the main attributes of the Caribbean nation, the governor stressed.

“The great commitment is that the Fair fits us well; if tourism grows, other entities and economic activities in the territory are chained, ”said Sabines when appearing this Friday on the television program Mesa Redonda, developed in Matanzas from the local TVYumurí.

“Tourism is the locomotive of the national economy. We have to make tourism advance in the province and that is the great purpose of managers and workers in the sector”, he emphasized.

He recalled that on November 15, 2021, Cuba opened the borders to the so-called smokeless industry, “and from that moment the presence of foreign and national tourists in Matanzas began to grow.”

“We open with new tourist products in the spa and a portfolio of options tempered to the biosanitary protocols against Covid-19, for the sake of healthy tourism,” he added.

He pointed out that the Varadero town currently sells 43 hotels, which group 78 percent of the available rooms at the center, and classified the results for this winter season as very favorable, backed by customer satisfaction surveys.

Varadero reached the status of the second best beach in the world, a natural attribute, several hotel facilities were awarded internationally, and it has non-hotel potential supported by innovative and attractive products, he said.

Sabines reported in the television appearance on the main economic and social results and the difficulties faced by the province in 2021 and the objectives and challenges for the year that has just begun.
