The 28th edition of the International Meeting of Academies for the Teaching of Ballet It will take place in Havana from April 2 to 12 with the presence of some 300 foreign participants from 14 confirmed countries.
These figures were revealed during the press conference offered this Thursday by its organizers, who recalled that the event will be the first fully face-to-face after the COVID-19 pandemic, review Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

Elizabeth Castro, director of the National Center for Art Schools, reaffirmed to the press that holding this meeting “shows the priority that the country gives to artistic education even in difficult conditions.”
He added that to prepare the appointment the teachers have developed a technical and methodological work of the highest level and that they continue the legacy of the precursors Alice AlonsoFernando Alonso and Ramona de Saá, pillars of the National Ballet of Cuba (BCN).
The board of directors also expressed that the new edition of the dance event aims to maintain the international positioning of the teaching method of the Cuban Ballet School, exalting it as artistic heritage.
The media adds that Master Martha Iris Fernández, deputy director of the National Ballet School, specified that the contests will be held at the Martí Theater in Old Havana, where the galas will also take place.
He said that, in addition to the foreign participants, all the provincial ballet schools in the country confirmed their presence, as well as the workshops in the territory of Pinar del Río.
Remember PL that the event will promote the development of dance art through exchanges with academies from various countries, promoting the creative display of children and young artists in their contests.
Its program includes three competitions in the children’s, youth and advanced categories for students from nine to 19 years of age, in which technical and artistic execution, musicality and also physical proportions will be evaluated.
The jury is chaired by the general director of the BNC, the prima ballerina viengsay valdesand is made up of artists and teachers such as the Cuban National Dance Award winner, Rosario Cárdenas, the directors of the Mexican company Siglo XXI, Eglé López, and the Dominican company “Contémpora”, Alfa Rodríguez, and the president of the South African international ballet competition, Dirk Badenhors.
