The Criminal Penitentiary Institute (INPE) announced today that it opened a disciplinary process against former President Pedro Castillo for providing statements to a Spanish media outlet without prior authorization.
The Spanish publication El Salto published on Tuesday an interview he conducted with Castillo, who is serving preventive detention in the Barbadillo prison, in which the former president assured that he perpetrated the coup on December 7, 2022 because “I wanted to get closer to the people.” .
“The Penal Enforcement Code and its Regulations expressly state that although communications constitute a right of every person deprived of liberty, they must occur within the parameters and objectives pursued by prison treatment, which excludes those of a political and/or or a proselytizer”, reported INPE.
Along these lines, the entity reported that Castillo Terrones did not request permission for a journalist to enter his cell to interview him.
According to El Salto, he collected the statements of the ex-governor orally and in writing, between the last days of January and the first week of February.
The institution recalled that this is the second process that the former head of state has initiated. The first was registered on January 26 by the publication of a letter signed by the Chotano professor and posted on his Twitter account.
