Inflation of 13.12% puts pressure on the Bank of the Republic

Inflation in Colombia accelerated more than expected at the end of 2022, a situation that adds pressure on the Banco de la República to continue with its more pronounced adjustment cycle.

According to Dane, the consumer price index in its annual variation was located at 13.12% in December compared to a year earlier, and closed at its highest level since March 1999.

For their part, prices increased by 1.26% only in December.

The increase was led by food, restaurants, hotel services, rents and utilities.

At their last meeting in 2022, the board of directors of the Banco de la República raised interest rates to 12%.
