Participants in the National Exam for Revalidation of Medical Diplomas Issued by a Foreign Higher Education Institution (Revalida) 2022/1 need to obtain at least 99.6 points out of 150, which corresponds to 66% of the maximum grade to pass the first stage of the exam. The test will be this Sunday (6).
The result must be equivalent to the sum of the points in the objective and discursive tests, without the possibility of percentage or rounding. The cut-off note was released this Friday (4) by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep).
Passing score
According to Inep, the establishment of the cut-off mark refers to the process by which a mark is determined for the approval of the examinees. In the case of Revalida, this grade is established using the Modified Angoff method, which consists of judging the level of difficulty of the items that make up the test by a group of specialists, in this case, professors of Medicine courses who are members of the Evaluation Committee of Items (CAI).
Different cutoffs are adopted for each edition, so that each corresponds to its respective level of difficulty. Thus, easier editions have higher cut-off scores and more difficult editions have lower cut-off scores, and all editions consider what would be the minimum knowledge of a doctor minimally able to work in Brazil.
In the last three editions of Revalida, the cutoffs of the first stage also varied. In the 2017 edition, this score corresponded to 57% (85 points) of the maximum score – 150. In 2020 and 2021, the percentage varied between 61% and 60%, which is equivalent to 92 and 90 points, respectively.
First step
The first stage of Revalida consists of objective and discursive tests, applied on the same day, in two shifts – morning and afternoon, respectively. In the morning, doctors will have up to five hours to solve 100 multiple-choice questions and, in the afternoon, up to four hours to answer five open-ended questions. Participants with additional time will have an extra hour to complete the tests in each shift.
The knowledge collected at this stage of the exam refers to care in the context of primary, outpatient, hospital, urgency, emergency and community care.
