Indigenous autonomy: what is it and where does it apply?

The indigenous autonomy consists of the power that indigenous peoples have to organize and direct your internal liferegarding their values, institutions, and mechanisms, within the framework of the State of which they are a part.

It is the capacity and the way to self-govern based on the territory, self-government and its autonomy to fulfill its functions and cultural identity.

Where does it rule?

According to the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN, 2007), article 4 establishes a right to autonomy and self-government in internal and local affairs and in the financing of their autonomous functions with the necessary means.
