Indeci: 5.5 tremor in Arequipa leaves 3 injured, 406 people affected and 35 houses uninhabitable

The Indeci National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported this Thursday that the 5.5 magnitude earthquake, with an epicenter in the Cabanaconde district, in the Caylloma province (Arequipa), which occurred the day before, has so far left 3 people injured. , 406 people affected, 130 victims, 203 houses affected and 35 houses uninhabitable.

The emergency, according to Today, it also affected 1 school, 1 health center, 150 meters of rural roads and 450 meters of highway and drinking water in seven districts: Madrigal, Cabanaconde, Lari, Maca, Ichupampa and Chivay, in the province of Caylloma, and the district of Alca, in the province of La Unión.

Regarding the injured, it was indicated that they already have a medical discharge.

Likewise, it was reported that personnel from the Peruvian Army’s Rapid Intervention Company for Disasters (CIRD) stationed in Arequipa moved to the Maca district to carry out cleaning tasks and install tents in the temporary shelter where some 200 victims will be housed.

A resident indicated this Thursday in RPP that the offered tents had not yet arrived.

Likewise, the COEN reported that Provías Nacional workers are carrying out work to recover traffic on the Chivay-Cabanaconde road with heavy machinery; however, they indicated that they were forced to stop their work due to the continuous landslides. They were waiting for the stabilization of the ground.

The Sectoral Emergency Operations Center (COES) of the Ministry of the Interior reported that, with the support of heavy machinery from the District Municipality of Madrigal, traffic was enabled in a restricted manner on the penetration roads of the aforementioned jurisdiction, in addition to Lari, while police officers continue to provide security to the population.

Likewise, the COES of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation reported that representatives of the Municipal Technical Area of ​​Cabanaconde are carrying out rehabilitation work on the main pipe of the drinking water network in the Pinchollo town center.
