The National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) ordered the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) to deliver a public version of various data from the investigations into the accident of one of its helicopters, which occurred on July 15. past, where 15 of his elements died, most of them members of his special forces, after they participated in the recapture of drug trafficker Rafael Caro Quintero. Since last September, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed that the mishap was due to the fact that the device ran out of fuel.
The case derived from a citizen request to the Navy about the details of the investigation of the case, to which it replied that said data did not exist or was reserved.
However, last Wednesday the INAI plenary session resolved that Semar must deliver the information required by the citizen, which includes the curriculum of the accident investigators, an explanation of the powers and attributions of the FGR to technically investigate air accidents, The report from the helicopter manufacturer, navigation certificate, document proving the fuel load before the accident, insurance policy, invoice, equipment used to warn of lack of fuel, black box report, final opinion of the incident, flight log, black box audio of the flight and of the controller.
