According to the latest report from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) on the demographics of companies in Uruguaywhich corresponds to the fourth quarter of 2022, the activities of social services and those related to human health counted during this period with a participation of women of 75.16% compared to 24.54% of male workers in this activity. This is the set of activities with the greatest presence of female employed personnel.
In second place was positioned teachingwhich registered a participation of employed personnel of 71.85% female workers versus 28.15% male workers.
The group named by the INE Other service activities it was in third place with a participation of female personnel that amounted to 63.07% compared to 46.82% of male personnel.
The two economic activities that completed the top five positions with the highest presence of female personnel did so in the order of 50%. In this sense, the category Water supply, sewerage, waste management… In the fourth quarter of last year, 53.18% of the staff was female compared to 46.82% male.
Likewise, the Professional, scientific and technical activities they have a percentage of 52.46% female workers and 47.54% male staff.
Accommodation and food services it also has a greater presence of female active personnel (51.19% to 48.81%).

The rest of the economic activities in Uruguay have a greater participation of male employed personnel, detailed the INE. This includes from administrative activities to arts, entertainment and recreationgoing through construction and exploitation of mines and quarries. This last activity is the one that has more male than female personnel in the country, which translates into a ratio of 13.19% to 86.81%.
More companies and active workers
As for the global, during the last quarter of 2022, the percentage of employed male personnel represented more than half (52.96%)therefore it was more than the employed female personnel (47.04%), according to the data presented by the INE, which correspond to the reality of the entire national territory.
In absolute terms, the fourth quarter registered an evolution compared to the third quarter of last year.
In this sense884,033 employed people were recorded in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the 907,935 employed in the last quarter of last year (480,842 men and 427,093 women).

In the last tranche of 2022, the INE registered —based on data from the Banco de Previsión Social or BPS— 181,351 active companies compared to 89,350 inactive.
