IOC will allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in its international competitions

The meeting held this Tuesday, March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to recommend to the International Federations to allow the individual participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in competitions under the banner of neutrality.
The IOC Executive Committee today issued the following recommendations to IFs and organizers of international sporting events:

  • Athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport must compete only as individual neutral athletes.
  • Teams of athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports cannot be considered.
  • Athletes who actively support the war are not allowed to compete. Support personnel who actively support the war cannot be entered.
  • Athletes under contract to the Russian or Belarusian armed forces or national security agencies are not allowed to compete. Support personnel hired by the Russian or Belarusian armed forces or national security agencies may not enter.
  • Any Neutral Individual Athlete, like all other participating athletes, must comply with all applicable anti-doping requirements and, in particular, those established in the IF anti-doping rules.
  • Sanctions against those responsible for the war, the states and governments of Russia and Belarus, must remain in force:
  • No international sporting event organized or supported by an IF or NOC in Russia or Belarus.
