In troubled moment, Flamengo debuts in Copa Libertadores

Flamengo begins its journey in the 2022 edition of the Copa Libertadores, starting at 21:30 (Brasília time) on the night of this Tuesday (5) against Sporting Cristal (Peru) for Group H. But the match, which was supposed to be a cause for celebration, will be played amid questions about the work of Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa, criticized by the fans after taking the team to the second runner-up of the season. In troubled moment, Flamengo debuts in Copa Libertadores

The game, played at the National Stadium in Lima and which will be broadcast by National Radiois the first of Rubro-Negro after being surpassed by Fluminense in the final of the Campeonato Carioca.

In such a negative context, a good start will be essential to ward off the specter of yet another season failure (Rubro-Negro was also runner-up in the Brazilian Supercup against Atlético-MG). And Paulo Sousa himself, in a press conference, made it clear that he expects a positive outcome in the South American competition: “We will have a new competition and we want to reach another final. And in a different way from the other two. In this final, we deserved more than we got.”

However, the Portuguese coach has problems to arm his team. The first is the absence of its main player of creation, the Uruguayan Giorgian De Arrascaeta, who remained in Rio de Janeiro to treat an injury to his left ankle. Who also did not go to Peru was the Chilean Isla, because of muscle pain.

One doubt is the defender Fabrício Bruno, who, recovering from an injury to his left foot, did a separate activity last Tuesday (4). Thus, Flamengo should enter the field with the following formation: Hugo; Gustavo Henrique (Fabrício Bruno), David Luiz and Filipe Luís; Matheuzinho (Rodinei), Arão (Thiago Maia), Gomes and Lázaro; Everton Ribeiro, Gabriel Barbosa and Bruno Henrique.
