In the Senate, CAE postpones the vote on the bill on postal privatization

A change in the opinion of rapporteur Márcio Bittar (PSL-AC), in the proposal to privatize Correios (PL 591/21), postponed the vote on the text in the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE). The change made the president of the collegiate, senator Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), grant a collective review of the matter. In the Senate, CAE postpones the vote on the bill on postal privatization

Bittar included a provision in the text to prohibit the closing of post offices, for a period of 60 months after privatization, in municipalities in the Legal Amazon with less than 15 thousand inhabitants.

Until the closing of this report, a new date had not yet been made official. The next meeting of the collegiate takes place on Tuesday (16) of next week.

In August, the text was approved by the deputies and, if there are changes in the Senate, it will need to go back to the Chamber’s analysis.

The proposal submitted by the government in February authorizes the exploitation of all postal services by the private sector. Among other various points, the text determines that the workers of the Postal and Telegraph Company (ECT) are not fired for a period of 18 months after privatization.

They will, however, be able to resign up to 180 days after privatization. The employee who decides to leave will be entitled to indemnity equivalent to one year’s remuneration, with maintenance of the health plan for 12 months from the moment of dismissal and joining a professional requalification program.
