The death toll from the floods in the Philippines rose to 25, authorities reported at a time when more rains are expected over the southern and central regions of the archipelago.
At least 13 people have died, most of them drowning, in Misamis Occidental province on the southern island of Mindanao, the national disaster agency reported.
Until Tuesday, 12 deaths had been counted due to bad weather in the Philippines.
While, 26 people remain missing and nine were injuredaccording to the organization.
Tens of thousands of people had to flee their homes in the face of heavy rains that covered rural towns, villages and roads on Christmas Day, marring the holidays in this largely Catholic country, the AFP news agency reported.
The meteorological service said that moderate to heavy rains were expected for this Wednesday and Thursday in the south and center of the country due to a low pressure system near the coast that could become a tropical depression.
“There are possibilities of flooding and landslides due to rain, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards”he added.
He indicated that there are efforts underway to help residents in areas affected by the floods, which left more than 81,000 people sheltered in evacuation centers.
