Personnel from the Police, the Prosecutor’s Office and other institutions in Santa Cruz seized nearly 80 kilograms of meat from wild animals that were being transported by a person near the Puerto Pailas checkpoint.
The seized meat corresponded to six taitetu and one gizzard of piyo (Rhea americana), species that are considered to be in danger of extinction.
Cindy Meyer, legal adviser to Direna of the Government of Santa Cruz, reported that the seized meat was found in a conservator and was transported in a public transport vehicle, on the Cuatro Cañadas-Santa Cruz route. On that journey, the motorized driver was stopped.

The joint work was carried out between the Directorate of Contentious Affairs, Pofoma, Highway Police, Public Ministry and Direna, due to the fact that poaching, transport of wild animals and their derivatives are punishable according to article 111 of Law 1333 of the Environment. and article 223 of the Bolivian Penal Code. Direna’s legal team was established as a plaintiff to combat this type of crime.
After the apprehension of a man, a court determined the house arrest and arraignment for this person.
