The mayor of Duque de Caxias, Washington Reis, was surprised this morning (29) by bandits, in the Parque Paulista locality, as he began a visit to the paving and drainage works being carried out by the city hall in the region.
Upon arriving at the scene, the cars in which the mayor and the security guards accompanying him were in were received with gunfire, at the height of Tolstoy Street. According to the mayor, it was a swift action by criminals who were on foot, and which was soon answered by members of his security.
“It was a lot of shooting with a heavy traffic weapon. They shot us a lot. Security reacted. Our car is armored and we managed to get out of the accident site”, said the mayor to Brazil Agency. Also in the car were state deputy Rosenverg Reis, his brother, and councilor Sandro Lélis. In another car, there was the Secretary of Communication of the City Hall, Aroldo Brito.
According to the mayor, the scare was great and he ruled out that it was a personal attack. “We already know the place, and we know that there was always a high level of risk there, but we were surprised, and I don’t think it’s something for us. It’s really scared, the car will arrive [no local], and they shot us a lot,” he said.
“They are bandits, no need to investigate. It wasn’t a chase with us. We arrived at the place and they were already there. We weren’t scheduled to get there. We drive around the city in the morning, in the afternoon, at night. There is no time to arrive. So, it would be impossible for anyone to wait for us there”.
The mayor informed that, despite the number of shots, there were no injuries. “The people there are already afraid because they know it is a risky place. A lady ran with a child into the house, I saw it, but thank God everything was under control”, she informed.
Washington Reis also said that, shortly after the attack, he contacted the commander of the 15th Battalion of the Military Police. “Colonel Alessandro is making all the arrangements,” he said.
The Civil Police informed the Brazil Agency that, until 11:20 am, the case had not been registered at the local police station. The Military Police did not respond until this matter was closed.
