The opposition leader who until a few months ago was recognized as interim president by the United States, Juan Guaidó, continues to hold meetings with senior Washington officials to assess pressure mechanisms against the government of Nicolás Maduro.
Through his social networks, Guaidó reported that he met with the White House special advisor for Latin America, Juan González, and with the Undersecretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the Department of State, Brian Nichols.
At the meeting, they insisted on the need to develop pressure mechanisms against the government of Nicolás Maduro as a way to achieve objectives such as the progress of the dialogue between Chavismo and the opposition or the holding of free presidential elections in Venezuela.
“We address the need to put pressure on the Maduro regime to return to the Mexico process, maintain the demand for free elections in Venezuela and protect those on the ground defending democracy,” he said in Twitter.

Guaidó, who is in exile after finding himself forced to flee Venezuela due to alleged threats of arrest by the Chavista administration, takes advantage of his stay in the United States to maintain relations with Washington.
The opposition leader arrived in Miami on April 25, after he left Venezuela to try to participate in the International Conference on the Political Process in Venezuela, held in Colombia, where he received a warning that he would be handed over to the security forces of Venezuela.
As a result of these warnings, Guaidó received support from the United States to leave Colombian lands bound for Miami.
