“In a skirt and flip-flops, a blouse and a hat, my beautiful little chap, you are a champion”: the joy of a son for his mother’s victory in the Tarija marathon

The first place that Clemencia Cruz, 58, obtained in the athletic competition between Padcaya – Chaguaya, went viral on social networks this Sunday after her son Aurelio Arce showed his joy.

“With a skirt and flip flops, a blouse and a hat, my beautiful little chap, you are a champion”Arce wrote for her mother’s achievement, who won the Ladies Master category in a 15-kilometer race organized on the eve of the start of the religious festival of the Virgin of Chaguaya.

Arce told THE DUTY that Seeing her mother succeed will always be the best thing that can happen to her and it is the first time she competed.

“I told him that I am going to sign up to run and the next day he called me to tell me to make him sign up. So this Sunday we ran together and when I reached the finish line I gave him encouragement so that I won,” Arce said.

He and his mother are from the Saire community, near the town of Padcaya.in the Arce province of the department of Tarija.

The competition is part of the activities in the run-up to the religious festival that begins this Monday with masses in the Church of Chaguaya and pilgrimages of devotees who walk from the city of Tarija.

The Departmental Emergency Operations Committee (COED) authorized the Diocese to carry out this festivity in person, like other religious festivals this month, after the positive cases for Covid-19 decreased.
