The main investigator of Human Rights Watch (HRW), César Muñoz, questioned this Monday the process against the journalist Luis Muñoz and described as “regrettable” the actions of the director of the AJAM, Brenda Lafuente, in addition to the judge and the prosecutor of the case.
Last week, the communicator was sent to the San Pedro prison in the framework of a process for alleged political violence for the publication of memes allegedly ordered by the official of the mining inspectorate.
“Bolivia: The journalist Luis Muñoz will have to spend 4 months in pre-trial detention allegedly for a meme that he created and the director of the state mining entity, for whom he worked, disliked. Regrettable action by the judge, the prosecutor and the director herself,” Muñoz wrote on Twitter.
To date, the executive director of the Mining Administrative Authority (AJAM), who declared herself a victim and denounced a subordinate, has not ruled on this case.

In the first instance, the complaints of violations of due process in this case arose from the family of the defendant, then press unions joined the sentence.
In this context, the Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, described the preventive detention measure for the journalist Muñoz as “excessive”.
In the opinion of the government authority, in this case there was an act of psychological violence, but the communicator should defend himself in freedom.
