After registering the traffic in Gualaca, Chiriquí province, the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMELCF) indicated that after a joint and collaborative effort by the team of forensic doctors, forensic odontologists, anthropologists and expert assistants, it is close to complete the work of recognition and multidisciplinary evaluation of the bodies and body fragments received to date at the David Judicial Morgue.
Among the remains received are two people who died at the Dr. Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital and at the José Domingo de Obaldía Maternal and Child Hospital. It is expected that this afternoon the taking of fingerprint impressions by the Forensic Papiloscopy experts will be completed.
Through the Public Ministry, the possibility of sending reference samples (fingerprint records, dental charts, family samples) is being negotiated with the consular authorities of the countries where the migrants came from, in order to identify the bodies.
The IMELCF appreciates the collaboration of the Chiriquí Health Region, the Dr. Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital and the José Domingo de Obaldía Maternal and Child Hospital, for allowing the use of their facilities for the protection of bodies and for the performance of medical necropsies. -legals of three cases unrelated to this tragedy.
