“I am willing to give my life in this fight,” says a political prisoner from a women’s prison

MIAMI, United States. — Political prisoner Arianna López Roque, leader of the Julio Machado Academyassured that she will remain firm in her principles and that she will not accept blackmail from the dictatorship that keeps her deprived of liberty.

From the women’s prison of Guamajal, in the province of Villa Clara, the inmate wrote a letter entitled “My commitment” that was clandestinely removed from that prison.

“My commitment has to be strictly with the freedom of Cuba and it has to be consistent with what I think and do… I will never accept any pact or blackmail… and I am willing to give my life if necessary in this fight,” wrote the opponent, who is also a member and founder of the Orlando Zapata Tamayo National Civic Resistance Front (OZT Front).

The letter, which was able to circumvent the police cordon inside the prison, concludes with three sentences that identify the prominent activist.

“Give up or quit has never been my choice. Homeland and life. Cubans all to the National Strike. Down with the Castro dictatorship”.

In recent years, Arianna López Roque has carried out outstanding work as an opponent in the province of Villa Clara as a promoter of the National strikely of the “Tres por Tres” campaign, as well as of all the forms of civil disobedience promoted on the Island to promote the transition towards democracy.

López Roque’s letter was supported by the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC), a coalition of political organizations that operates both inside and outside the Island.

“The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance lets Arianna López Roque know that she continues and will continue to have our full support, backing and admiration, that we will continue to raise our voices for her and for all those who suffer political imprisonment and defend freedom in Cuba” , details a statement released by that organization.
