The executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), Jean Luis Rodríguez, assured that the Dominican Republic is becoming a logistics hub regional with purpose and commitment, “as has been the mandate and vision of President Luis Abinader”.
Rodríguez specified that this management is developing a master plan with which they seek to promote the arrival of cruise passengers and the generation of some ten thousand jobs for which Apordom has opened itself to the world and has signed various agreements, reinforcing the participation of cruise ships and the search for higher investments.
“We are convinced that these new terminals, which currently have three: San Souci, Amber Cove and La Ramona, as well as several anchorages, and for this period of government we could lead the country to have three to seven cruise terminals You can already imagine the importance of this progress for the Dominican Republic”, he stated.
During the event, Transport and Logistics Summit 2022, the official explained that the Port Authority has recovered its deficit, and now has a positive balance of more than RD$346,934,452.36. Dominican pesos.
He added that at the end of April they had collected more than 110 million Dominican pesos, which represents an increase of 40%.
Regarding the development of the ports in the country, he referred to the advances in San Pedro de Macorís, where the construction of a dock is contemplated for an approximate cost of US$9.5 million dollars, which will have the capacity to have three ships at a time in the cargo area.
Regarding the Port of Manzanillo, which has a special connotation, as it is the promise of many years, he said that the roadshow has already been held to start the tender for the port of Manzanillo with a loan of 100 million dollars.
In addition, he reiterated the creation of the National Port Logistics Training Institute, with which it is expected to impact more than 20,000 people in the first two years of management.
