Heat, efficiency and care for the environment. The high-performance stoves offered by Tatton combine these three qualities to make winter a joy. This Uruguayan company represents important brands that have made their place in the local market.
Charles Tatton, director of the firm, first highlighted the advantages of high-performance, double-combustion stoves in relation to traditional open stoves. He pointed out that the advantages are not only the heat that ensures one or another option, but also about the benefits regarding the care of the environment.
“As a consequence of this efficiency, savings in firewood are generated, but in addition, the stove becomes a central heating system, since if it is installed strategically, it will be possible to heat the entire house. Physics ensures that hot air, being less dense, moves only from warm spaces to where it is colder, ”he indicated.
Diego Ríos, commercial manager of the company, said regarding the traditional stove that it is common to see “whatever” is burned in them, while it is key for everyone to spend time understanding “what and how to burn it”. “For this, it is important to have a good firewood supplier that watches over the quality of the fuel we burn, since firewood with more than 30% humidity dramatically increases the emission of particulate matter,” he asserted.
“In the traditional stove, a lot of energy is lost and it is a great risk to leave it on when you go out or when you go to sleep. Even when it is turned off, it works as an extractor, expelling the little heat that the environment received through the chimney. All this does not happen with a high performance stove. The worst that can happen is that it runs out of wood and goes out, but the heat it released is not lost by working in a closed system. You turn on the heater and you can go out while it is on, making sure that when you return you enter a heated home, ”he explained.
If the energy source is pellet –the other option to light a high-performance stove–, additional benefits are obtained by incorporating a thermostat, such as regulating the temperature at which we want the environment to be. “According to the needs, the pellet is burned more or less. It also marks the power level, as an air conditioner would work. It is a more controllable system than that of the wood stove,” said Ríos.
Home heat and security.
In Tatton’s opinion, “a cultural battle” is being waged, since “intradomiciliary pollution is even worse than that of the environment.”
“There is a significant environmental issue behind high performance stoves and the fuel used. In the world there are environmental certifications that regulate manufacturers so that they take care of the emissions of their stoves. However, today, products arrive in the Uruguayan market that are not certified. It is important that the state activate import permit policies endorsing only importers that can guarantee compliance with environmental standards, since not all manufacturers are capable of designing stoves that adapt to current regulations in demanding markets such as Europe, North America, North and Chile”, assured Tatton.
Multibrand
Tatton is a “multi-brand” company as it markets several brands of high performance stoves. Among them, the Chilean Amesti, “with which we have spearheaded the market, one of the most recognized stoves,” said the director of the company. Tatton has installed about 15,000 stoves in the Uruguayan market in these twelve years of activity.
In turn, they work with the Portuguese company Metlor, the Italian companies Moretti and La Nordica and with the Chinese metallurgical company with European designs and development under the Precise brand. “Our product portfolio is very broad; each brand has between 8 to 15 models, thus offering products for all needs. Some have the particularity of transferring hot air by channeling it through ducts to other environments, or thermoproducts that heat water to distribute heat through radiant floors or radiators”, explained Tatton.
The range of double combustion alternatives or efficient stoves is “quite wide” in terms of power: “We go from houses of 50 to 200 square meters.”
A decentralized service
Tatton’s service reaches the entire country: with 30 points of sale, it is present in all departments, working with a single representative per region for both sales and after-sales service. “In that sense we are very close to the client; if you look for us in the department you will know how to find us. We guarantee the installation of technical teams trained by our staff. In each department there is a team capable of installing and carrying out after-sales service.

In each department there is a team capable of installing and carrying out after-sales service. In addition to having the entire line of spare parts, with which we can ensure the operation of the stove in the medium and long term”, said Tatton.
Meanwhile, Ríos stated that they seek to “decentralize all service, sales and after-sales, and not depend on Montevideo to solve something in the interior.” “We are a multi-brand stove company and there are many multi-item points of sale in the market that, among other things, sell stoves, but few focus on it. We have boutiques specializing in heating stoves and in case of any inconvenience we manage to solve it locally,” said Ríos.
