Santo Domingo.- The Directorate for Access to High-Cost Medications (Damac), of the Ministry of Public Health, offered advice on how to provide emotional support to patients with breast cancer and other complex diseases.
Dr. Cindy Rodríguez, during a talk that was led by the director of Damac, Dr. Karen Cepeda, cited among the important factors to maintain the mental health of patients with breast cancer and other diseases the support network, effective communication , active listening, empathy and understanding.
“The best care, in addition to the physical part, includes timely emotional and psychological care of the patient, which is sometimes forgotten in a disease such as breast cancer,” he added.
He stressed that the accompaniment of mothers, fathers, children, siblings and other related is essential for patients to face their ailments in the best way.
“Husbands, children, grandchildren and other family members are expected to provide emotional and practical support, while also dealing with their own feelings,” she said.
He highlighted that those cancer patients who show greater spirit to deal with the disease have a higher survival rate compared to those who react with stoicism, acceptance, hopelessness and helplessness.
This activity, carried out by Damac as part of the commemoration of the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, was blessed by Pastor Laura Cardenes, who called on those present to trust and comply with medical processes, since God works through through those professionals.
The Ministry of Public Health recalled that through DAMAC, treatment is provided to more than 700 affected by breast cancer, who are part of its more than 15,642 beneficiaries of high-cost medications, with an investment this year of more than RD$9,000 million. .
