‘Herederos del Campo’: Support program and local purchase of corn will improve the productivity of more than 12 thousand families in San Martín and Lambayeque

“Herederos del Campo”, the support program for agricultural activity of the Golden brand of announces in the which will expand its scope to the regions of San Martín and Lambayeque, thereby substantially increasing the number of families benefited by this initiative.

“Our goal is to reach 1,200 families in San Martín and Lambayeque, regions where the program will be implemented for the first time and in which we have already carried out corn purchase activities.”, indicated Alejandra Campero, VP of Procurement. Peruvian corn is the distinctive ingredient of Golden, a brand in the company’s portfolio that is characterized by being a unique beverage inspired by the great tradition of this ingredient.

“As part of Backus’ commitment to having a positive impact on society, we want to bring tools to families dedicated to agriculture to improve their quality of life. This is how we contribute to the efforts of our partners in the field, who make it possible for us to have a high-quality input to produce Golden”Camper added.

The program, implemented in February 2021, has the objective of increasing the productivity and production of hard yellow corn crops, improving the quality of the grain and its marketing processes. In addition, it seeks to develop the associativity and business management of farmers, and bet on strengthening their capacities, providing them with training, connectivity, access to financing and technical assistance.

In 2021, Herederos del Campo directly benefited the province of Barranca and had 165 farmers as part of the program; in 2022, 250 farmers are being incorporated into the area. In addition, the purchases of national corn in the San Martín and Lambayeque regions benefited 500 families in 2021 and it is expected to add 1,200 families in 2022.

With this program, Backus brings to Peruvian agriculture its comprehensive commitment to having a positive impact on society.

Herederos del Campo aligns with Backus’ commitment to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Thus, the program is linked to SDG 01 (End of poverty), SDG 08 (Decent work and economic growth), SDG 10 (Reduction of inequalities), SDG 12 (Responsible production and consumption) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for achieve goals).

Since 2008, Backus has been working together with local farmer cooperatives in areas such as Jequetepeque (CEPROVAJE) and Barranca (COOPANORTE), which has provided a local supplier of excellent quality corn. In addition, the possibility of including other national crops in the company’s production chain, such as rice, wheat and/or barley, is being evaluated.
