Health condition of political prisoner Alexander Díaz Rodríguez in Guanajay prison worsens

Havana Cuba. – The health of the opponent, political prisoner and 11J protester Alexander Díaz Rodríguez has rapidly worsened in recent days, they told CubaNet various sources on condition of anonymity from the Guanajay prison of maximum rigor, in the western province of Artemisa.

The protester’s physical condition has visibly deteriorated and shows alarming symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, accelerated weight loss, ashy coloration and a pronounced decline that forces him to spend most of the time lying down, said the inmates consulted by this means. .

Diaz himself indicated by telephone that as a result of the complaint published a few days ago Regarding his state of health, several soldiers carried out an inspection in that prison center, among them the head of Reeducation of Jails and Prisons.

The political prisoner notes that at the time the officer approached the cell he was able to witness one of the episodes of frequent sweating that has plagued him recently, so the military officer waited for it to happen before taking him out and talking to him.

Díaz emphasizes that he took advantage of the occasion to emphasize that he had cancer and that due to the oncologist’s guidance he should be admitted to a hospital with urgent treatment and a special diet.

However, the executive replied that his case belonged to “Operation Dignity” (a name that the regime has given to the incessant repressive campaign against the protesters of July 11 and 12), that he was a “ringleader” and that, therefore, they could not take him out of Guanajay.

Likewise, he also added that in the Combinado del Este they would not receive him because there were many prisoners of the aforementioned operation.

For his part, the opponent added that the head of the Guanajay prison, Lieutenant Colonel Juan Guillermo Cordero Martínez, assured him that both he and the head of State Security for the province of Artemisa had raised their case with the National Directorate of Jails and Prisons where, according to the soldier, they were told that “for now” they cannot transfer him to the Combinado del Este hospital, that this would be “later, for next year.”

The political prisoner points out that after the visit of the aforementioned commission to the prison they began to administer 12 daily pills including folic acid tablets, Propranolol and others whose names he does not know and that he does not know what they are for, in addition to a syrup that, according to him they assured, it was for anemia.

As a diet they give him “a small glass of some very watery guava or mango juice”, or Miragurt, a drink of unknown composition that he does not drink because it is always fermented and it hurts him. Several inmates say that he barely eats, mainly drinks water with sugar that his cellmates prepare for him.

The activist points out that whenever he asks for the diet prescribed by the oncologist in the prison, he is told that they do not have the necessary food for it, and although the head of the prison assured him that on Tuesdays and Thursdays he would give him “a little piece of meat or chicken of the food of the military”, he has never fulfilled it, denounced Díaz.
