The leadership of the Christian Democratic Youth (JDC) decided to adhere to the I approve option, while urging the leadership of the community, headed by the mayor of La Granja Luis Felipe Delpín, to “take the same definition” in favor of the constitutional proposal in order to subsequently correct its “deficiencies and omissions”.
In short, the JDC leaned towards the formula “approve to reform”, which goes in the opposite direction to what is proposed by the senators of the Falange Ximena Rincón and Matías Walker, who have already summoned the government authorities and the other forces politicians -with a presence in Congress- to push a reform aimed at lowering the quorums for constitutional reforms to 4/7, an initiative that aims to make the Rejection option viable.
“Although the proposal for the new text is not yet finished, with the essential elements already defined, the transitory norms approved, and in the face of the multitude of actors and leaderships taking a position, it is up to us as a party to take an institutional definition,” indicates the statement released. by the Christian Democratic Youth. Among the reasons to support the constitutional proposal, the JDC referred to “a new treatment towards the regions and communes, allowing a more harmonious and integrated development between the different areas of the country.”
“Because of the foregoing, and considering that the great merit of the proposed new Constitution is that it has democratic legitimacy, allowing a discussion on a totally different level than that which occurs with the current text, which in its transitory provisions, allows a mechanism of reforms much more flexible than the current Constitution, and that it is not possible to trust that the right wing will allow a new constitutional process”, added the JDC.
In the document, the JDC indicates that “in no case is a scenario of freedom of action possible in this dilemma, because it would mean giving up the role that falls to a political party in a process of these characteristics, it would increase the confusion in the citizenry about what does the PDC think about the matter, and it would be to hide and postpone the internal differences that we have”.
“A great agreement is required to modify matters related to the political system, in order to improve the coordination and functioning between the different institutions, guaranteeing the effective separation of powers and minimizing the risk that authoritarian caudillos can seize power“ added the statement.
