The senator Gustavo Penadés of the National Party (PN) appeared before the media this Wednesday to respond to the accusations of sexual abuse which he received from Romina Celeste, a member of the same party. According to the young woman’s statements, the senator allegedly sexually abused her on at least two occasions when I was a minor and was 13 years old.
Before his appearance before the press, Penadés met with the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, who also occupies the seat in the Senate that the Herrerista senator occupies.
The senator stated that “this is a strictly personal matter” and flatly denied the accusations against him. He also stated that he is willing to go “to the last consequences” and that he is available to justice for any action that is relevant to the case.
Penadés says that his honor is aggravated by the accusation of Romina Celeste
In his statements, Penadés regretted that some anonymous people spread statements about him with the manifest intention of offending his honor. In addition, he announced that he will initiate legal action against all active participants in these slanders.
For his part, Romina Celeste had stated on her Twitter account that a recognized leader of his party he had abused her when she was younger. At that time, he did not give names, but pointed out that this person had declared to the press that she was not part of the National Party. All this happened after she was involved in a controversy for attacking an official of the Municipality of Montevideo in a demonstration against the act organized by the commune to receive President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva.
Later, in an interview with the program We do what we can, Papasso revealed that the person he was referring to on his social networks was Gustavo Penadés. In the following hours, Papasso added anonymous complaints from other young people who claimed to have been contacted by the senator.
Finally, the young woman who denounced the senator stated that she will not file a criminal complaint because the event occurred 15 years ago. «After 15 years? No, I don’t think (to report it). More condemnation than people… Talk to people, to my people and to those who are not, to be like that. This is a Justice. This is more than Justice. What are they going to do to him… I don’t want money, I don’t want anything from him, “she said in the interview broadcast this Tuesday.
