Guayaquil reduces capacity and prohibits shows due to covid

The mayor of Guayaquil, Cynthia Viteri, urged this Friday (January 7, 2021) the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) to evaluate the possibility of decreeing a Exception status to restrict mobility due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the city.

“We urge the National COE to: limit access to beaches and spas until January 21 and evaluate the relevance of a state of exception, in order to restrict mobility and stop contagions,” Viteri wrote in his account of Twitter

He did so shortly after reporting the step of Guayaquil at alert level 3 due to the increase in cases of COVID-19, a decision based on the record of 562 infections and 5 deaths per day after the December holidays.

In her account of the aforementioned social network, the mayor added that 111 patients remain in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and that there is a shortage of antigen tests, which has motivated the cantonal COE to take new restrictive measures.

These measures include establishing the capacity 50% maximum in markets, supermarkets and shopping centers and 30% in other customer service establishments, open or closed, in addition to operating hours until midnight.

The cantonal COE also ratified the prohibition sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages and moderation on public roads.

According to the resolutions of the cantonal COE, the realization of shows mass audiences and events of public concentration in parks and boardwalks are suspended.

Before the end of 2021, the Buenos Aires city already raised the alert level from 1 to 2 due to the increase in cases.

To date, there are 58,345 confirmed cases with the virus in Guayaquil, where at the beginning of the week the authorities already warned of an accelerated upward trend, which is why they urged private companies to give priority to teleworking because, between 27 and 31 December, from 3 to 5 deaths per day due to COVID-19.
