Electrification, in any of its forms, is advancing in the automotive industry. Today the all-terrain vehicle brand is proof of this with the arrival of the Grand Cherokee 4xe, a hybrid version that was configured in different equipment levels and that, despite having the objective of reducing gasoline consumption, does not lose its 4×4 capabilities.
Jeep prepared a portfolio with three versions: Overland, Summit and TrailHawk. Each of them with a specific orientation towards a certain type of client and sharing the same mechanical characteristics. Under the hood is a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is assisted by two electric generators. One of them takes over the tasks of starting the vehicle while the second is placed directly on the transmission.
Both are powered by a 400-volt battery that fully recharges in 13 hours with a 120-volt charger. The benefits of the set are a power of 375 hp and a torque of 470 lb-ft as well as an electric autonomy of 40 kilometers and 765 kilometers in hybrid mode.
As in hybrid cars, the braking system is regenerative, but in the Grand Cherokee 4xe, the recharge increases when the 4×4 drive is activated, since all the wheels generate energy. Additionally, there is the Max Regen mode that increases resistance and stops the vehicle in less time but increases efficiency.
At the wheel
Taking it for an off-road test drive, it’s clear that the Grand Cherokee 4xe in TrailHawk trim offers serious off-road capability with its gearbox (with 4 Low), Quadra Track II system, air suspension and disconnect. of the stabilizer bar.
In the lower part we have the “Skid plate” protection, which is an aluminum plate that protects elements such as the crankcase or the transfer case. To all this are added the Select Terrain driving modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand / mud, Rocks, as well as the Off Road Pages where the levels, traction distribution and inclinometer are shown.
The equipment, depending on the version, can offer wood inserts, Head Up Display, Digital Cluster with night vision, 3 screens, one for the cluster, the second in the center console (10.1”), and the third for the co-pilot ( 10.25”).
