Governor of La Araucanía: "What cannot happen is that the state of emergency is withdrawn on March 26"

The Governor of La Araucanía, Luciano Rivas (Independiente, close to Evópoli), called for a “plan equal to or more robust than the one we have today”, in a new attack by the opposition in its call on the Government of President Gabriel Boric to maintain the State of Constitutional Exception in the south.

“The Government also had to see on the ground what the security issue is, when we are talking about a state of emergency being withdrawn from La Araucanía, and we need to have a plan that is equal to or more robust than what we have today,” said the regional authority, according to Cooperativepointing to the measure due next week.

“What cannot happen is that on March 26 the state of emergency is withdrawn and we leave people totally defenseless in our region,” added Rivas.

Government spokeswoman Camila Vallejo reaffirmed a few days ago that they will not extend the measure in the so-called “southern macrozone”, which was decreed by the administration of Sebastián Piñera, as a result of the acts of violence in the area. In addition, she emphasized Approve Dignidad’s commitment to the constituent process. “Our mandate is to care for and defend this process and ensure that in the exit plebiscite we leave behind the legacy of the civic-military dictatorship,” she said.

Meanwhile, the independent senator, Carmen Gloria Aravena, referred to the approval by Congress of a new extension of the emergency constitutional state of exception that has been in force in four southern provinces since October 2021.
