Government authorizes disbursement of Bs 62.3 million for a new company that will industrialize the coca leaf

Through Supreme Decree (DS) 4746, The administration of Luis Arce Catacora created the Bolivian Coca Leaf Industrialization Public Productive Company (Kokabol), with the aim of industrializing the coca leaf.

The state company will have an initial capital of Bs 62.3 million from the General Treasury of the Nation (TGN), authorized by the Ministry of Economy and Public Finance, to specify and implement the ‘Coca Leaf Processing Plant’ in Cochabamba.

Arce from social networks detailed that the new state company will be located in the municipality of Sacaba (Cochabamba), and that it will depend directly on the Service for the Development of Public Productive Companies (Sedem).

In the third article of the DS it is detailed that Kokabol’s main activity is the development of the coca leaf basic chemical industry. and toothpaste. Likewise, the production, processing, transformation and commercialization of other products derived from the coca leaf and medicinal plants.

The new state company will also carry out research and productive technological development coca leaf and medicinal plants for industrialization.

For Jhony Mercado, former president of the Bolivian Association of Economists, allocating that amount of money for a project, which is not vital for the economy, is not the most appropriate when seeking to reduce spending and maximize public income.
