Gladys Gutiérrez retreaded in the presidency of the TSJ

Judge Gladys Gutiérrez reported that Judge Edgar Gavidia and Henri Timaure were elected as first and second vice president of the Supreme Court, respectively.


Gladys Gutiérrez was appointed as president of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) for the next 12 years. This was confirmed by the magistrate herself on April 27, one day after being sworn in before the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2020.

Judge Edgar Gavidia and Henri Timaure were elected as first and second vice president of the High Court, respectively. Gladys Gutiérrez reported that Judge Malaquias Gil was elected president of the Political-Administrative Chamber and Barbara César second vice president.

According to Gutiérrez, magistrates Fanny Márquez and Carlisia Rodríguez were appointed as president and first vice president of the Electoral Chamber and magistrates Henri Timaure and José Luis Gutiérrez as president and vice president of the Civil Cassation.

Meanwhile, Elsa Gómez and Carmen Castro were appointed president and vice president, respectively, of the Criminal Cassation Chamber and Edgar Gavidia and Carlos Castillo as president and vice president of the Social Cassation Chamber.

The new authorities of the TSJ were appointed during the ordinary session of the AN on April 26, , one month after the expiration of the legal period to complete this process, in accordance with the Organic Law of the TSJ. The list of names was presented by the president of the Judicial Nominations Committee, deputy from the ruling caucus Giuseppe Alessandrello.

The legal period for the appointment of new magistrates of the TSJ was completed on March 26. The process had advanced rapidly to its final stage. The AN dominated by Chavismo deferred the appointment of the new judicial authorities at least eight times.
