The visitors recovered in discount time and Dávila scored twice in the final minutes
The Argentinean Milton Giménez and the Uruguayan Facundo Batista scored a goal each to guide this Friday the Necaxa’s 3-2 win over Leon on the twelfth day of Apertura 2022 tournament of Mexican soccer. Necaxa’s other goal, which jumped to seventh place in the standings, was an own goal by goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota. The Chilean Víctor Dávila scored a double for León, which despite the defeat remained in thirteenth place in the table.
Necaxa took time to take over the first half and after spending the first 20 minutes on the clock they became the best team on the field. In the 34th minute, Brian García, on the right wing, put a serve into the area that Milton Gimenez headed for 1-0. After that, Facundo Batista found a space near the crescent and with his right leg he made it 2-0 next to Rodolfo Cota’s right post in minute 44. In added time, Milton Giménez leaked a cross to Batista, who shot at the right post and in the bounce the ball hit the back of dimension for 3-0.
León became the bossy team in the second half against Necaxa who, due to their advantage on the scoreboard, chose to defend themselves and stopped attacking. The Necaxa goalkeeper, Luis Malagón, prevented León’s goals in minute 48, by refusing a shot by Elías Hernández, and in minute 50, by sending a header from Fidel Ambríz to a corner kick. In the final 15 minutes, León pressed and, after mistakes by Luis Montes and Colombian Yairo Moreno, discounted. In minute 90, the Ecuadorian Byron Castillo entered the area and crossed a service that with his forehead Victor Davila turned into 3-1. A minute later, at 90+1, Dávila overflowed from the left and outwitted his marker to make it 3-2 with a low shot.
Later, Cruz Azul will seek to link two victories for the first time in the Apertura when visiting Juárez FC.
The twelfth matchday began this Thursday with a goalless draw between Tijuana and San Luis, and a 1-1 draw between Gallos Blancos del Querétaro and Puebla. The matches will continue this Saturday when Pachuca hosts Santos Laguna, Monterrey hosts Mazatlán FC, two-time champion Atlas hosts Pumas UNAM and América hosts Tigres UANL. This Sunday the day will end with the visit of Chivas del Guadalajara to Toluca.
