Gil Lavedra took office at the Public Bar Association and asked for changes in justice

In the institution’s Auditorium Room, at 1441 Corrientes Avenue in this city, Gil Lavedra asked on Monday to “listen to the student” in order to “defend him” on the issues that concern him, and promised to “modernize the College”, pointing especially towards the exercise of the profession and training, with a process of modernization, and guaranteeing access to Justice.

Also, committed to implementing gender policies (his list was completed with a female majority) and defend female lawyers from mistreatment in their daily work.

In the most political part of his speech, asked that the Judicial Council “Stop being hostage to political interests” and speed up the appointment of magistrates in vacant courts.

He also acknowledged that “justice in Argentina suffers from a crisis of credibility”, spoke of the delays in court proceedings and the “constant criticism” about failures and asserted: “We lawyers are not indifferent to this situation of disrepute of Justice.”

“We have a constitutional mandate to ensure the independence of judges and the effectiveness of justice services”, He added before an auditorium where the judges of the Supreme Court Juan Carlos Maqueda and Ricardo Lorezentti sat, together with the former judge and former Minister of Justice Carlos León Arslanian and Jorge Valerga Aráoz, who were companions of Gil Lavedra in the court that condemned the military junta of the last dictatorship.

The new president of the entity also said that “we are going to fight to have a better legal profession and a best collegeopen doors, transparent, modernthat defends lawyers and at the same time is committed to the validity of the Rule of Law, the independence and the effectiveness of justice”.

He also recalled the jurist Carlos Nino, who used the example of the Sagrada Familia (Barcelona) to demonstrate how it is built in stages over time.

“We are going to continue the story, all the things that have been done well are going to continue. Previous administrations have created a model of the College of services that, in many aspects, is successful,” he stressed.

He acknowledged that “the independence of judges from politics and other pressure factors is mistrusted” and that there are “access difficulties and enormous delays in judicial processes” that “make a large part of the citizenry dissatisfied with judicial performance.”

He pointed out that before the closure of legal studies, the College is going to allocate more coworking spaces and rooms to hold virtual hearings and announced the implementation of a line of credit with Banco Ciudad for the replacement of mobile phone equipment and laptops of those enrolled. . He also said that he will sign an agreement with the Faculty of Law of the UBA to provide technical assistance in accountability.

“Let one thing be clear: it is possible for judicial processes to be carried out in substantially less time, it is possible to have a more efficient judicial organization and it is possible to have a more open, more accessible justice system,” he added.

Last month, Gil Lavedra had prevailed in the elections of that entity with 49% of the voteswith a unity list that brought together 13 lawyers’ organizations, defeating the ruling People of Law, in charge of leadership in the last 16 years.

Also present yesterday was Pablo Clusellas, former Secretary of Legal and Technical Affairs of Cambiemos; the attorney general of the city Juan Bautista Mahiques, the Buenos Aires attorney Julio Conte Grand, and the deputy and counselor of the Magistracy Pablo Tonelli, among others.
