The Miss Universe Nicaragua organization today presented Geyssell García, originally from Santo Tomás, Chontales, as the new representative of Nicaraguan beauty and who will represent the country at Miss Universe 2024, to be held in Mexico on November 16.
The new MUN franchise decided to appoint its candidate due to time constraints, after the previous Miss Nicaragua administration suffered a direct attack from the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, which prohibited the entry of the director of said organization, Karen Celebertti.
Celebertti has directed the most important beauty pageant in Nicaragua since 2001, and it was after Sheynnis Palacios’ victory as Miss Universe 2023 that the government decided to attack the franchise, also ordering the expulsion of Celebertti’s family.
The Sandinista government tried to obtain the Miss Universe franchise through Xiomara Blandino, owner of the Miss Teen Nicaragua franchise and wife of Juan Carlos Ortega, son of the dictatorial couple; however, the current owner of Miss Universe, Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, denied the sale.

Later, according to media reports, Javier Pastor, a Nicaraguan businessman in Miami, USA, made a request to purchase a new franchise for the country that currently holds the universal crown and was accepted by the organization, making him the new owner of the franchise.
A few days ago, an official website was created under the name of Miss Universe Nicaragua (the name of the new franchise), which was supported by the official website of the MU organization. Due to time constraints for its preparation, the new management of the MUN decided to appoint a candidate and it was not until today that García was announced as the chosen one.
The information was confirmed by García on social media. The new Miss Universe Nicaragua is a Nicaraguan model who participated twice in Miss Nicaragua, the first time she obtained the MN first runner-up sash in 2020 and in 2021 she resigned from the pageant a few days before the coronation night claiming to have health problems.
The 29-year-old Nicaraguan has been traveling around the world until now, as seen on her social media. There are still no details of the official coronation. It is unknown if Celebertti is working with this new administration.
