The union that brings together the workers of the refrigerators decided to carry out a 24-hour general strike this Friday, May 6a measure that will be accompanied by a concentration of workers in Plaza Independencia in Montevideofrom the hour 10.
The strike and the concentration, was explained this Tuesday to The Observer, It is adopted based on the lack of a solution to the cancellation of activities in the Rosario Slaughterhouse, in Coloniawhere fishing and industrial activities ceased almost a year ago, in July 2021, which affected 350 workerswho were sent to unemployment insurance.
In a statement addressed to public opinion, the Workers’ Federation of the Meat and Allied Industries (Foica) explained that the reason for the inactivity in this industrial complex is the sanction applied by the Chinese health authorities.
The objective of the strike and the concentration is to make visible what these workers are going through, with a detriment that affects practically the entire community in Rosario, it was explained.
It is among the objectives of the Foica that a hierarch of the Executive Power can receive a delegation of workers, alluding to someone from the Presidency of the Republic or from the ministries related to the issue: Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Labor and Social Security and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From the official Chinese health agency The sanction was recently lifted from the veterinarian who issued the certificate that led to the sanction (the immediate suspension and with no end date of the importation of meat from the Rosario Slaughterhouse), but the plant is still not notified that it can re-export to that destination.
The disqualification occurred because the shipped product and its description did not match..
100% of what was produced in this refrigerator until the time of the sanction was destined for the Chinese market.
