Like every August 2, this Tuesday, the Gastronomic Worker’s Day. The date dedicated to gastronomy and hotel industry professionals commemorates a day like today in 1948, when the Argentine Workers Federation of the Hotel Industry (FOAIH) was established.
Currently, FOAIH is known as the Union of Tourism, Hotel and Gastronomy Workers of the Argentine Republic (UTHGRA). The trade association represents restaurant and hotel workers. For this reason, in this day entity creation is remembered.
The foundation of labor union It took place on August 2, 1948 through Resolution No. 160/55 of the National Ministry of Labor and Welfare. From this, the date was selected to recognize the workers of the gastronomic and hotel sector.
It should be noted that, previously, there were already small organizations of gastronomic employees. However, the consolidation of the FOAIH meant the grouping of professionals dedicated to the aforementioned area.
Over the years, the entity underwent different fluctuations, since it was intervened in 1977 after the coup d’état. It was only in 2004 that it managed to define its authorities and reform its statute. There, the guild was renamed as it is currently known: Union of Tourism, Hotel and Gastronomy Workers of the Argentine Republic (UTHGRA).
The specifics of the date
Year to year, relative to Gastronomic Worker’s Day, in different parts of the country, different activities and services are usually carried out for the employees of the union. Likewise, for those gastronomic and hoteliers who work on their day, they must obtain a remuneration similar to that received on a national holiday day.
