Fuel prices frozen for the fourth consecutive week in Nicaragua

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the Nicaraguan Institute of Energy (INE) reported that they will keep the price of fuels frozen for the fourth consecutive week, but did not provide more details of the strategy used to cushion the increase in international prices of fuel. Petroleum.

Both institutions indicated, through a press release, that the measure is the product of a policy of the Government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo to mitigate the impact of the prices of gasoline, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas, which remain the same as before. 28 days.

The price of a gallon of superior gasoline will remain at 185.35 córdobas and that of regular at 180.96 córdobas, while that of diesel at 163.54 córdobas.

As for liquefied petroleum gas, which is what Nicaraguan households use to prepare food, its prices will be the same as four weeks ago for the 10-pound, 25-pound, and 100-pound presentations.

Oil closed lower

The Nicaraguan government announced its decision on a day in which the price of intermediate oil from Texas, a reference for Nicaragua, fell 1.2% and closed at 104.09 dollars a barrel.

However, the vice president and spokeswoman for the regime, Rosario Murillo, said in her midday monologue that the government will assume the difference between the cost of international oil prices and local distributors, although she did not offer details.

According to the INE and the MEM, the increase that was planned for the following week was 30.89 córdobas per gallon of diesel, 10.64 for super gasoline and 6.39 for regular gasoline.

So far this year there have been nine weekly increases and one drop in the price of regular and super gasoline, and nine increases in the price of diesel in Nicaragua, according to data from the Nicaraguan Institute of Energy (INE).

Fuel prices are established weekly by distribution companies based on variations in international prices of these derivatives, “that is, these prices are not regulated by the State,” confirmed the INE on its website.
