The Government reacted to the frustrated dissolution of Congress ordered this Wednesday by the former president of Peru Pedro Castillo. The Executive regretted the political situation in the neighboring country and hopes that the crisis will be resolved through democratic mechanisms.
“The Government of Chile deeply regrets the political situation that the Republic of Peru is experiencing, and trusts that this crisis that affects a sister country can be resolved through democratic mechanisms and respect for the rule of law,” said the Foreign Ministry. it’s a statement.

Castillo made the announcement of the dissolution of Congress this Wednesday, hours after Parliament debated a vacancy motion (removal) against him. The former president’s measure did not arouse support in his cabinet or in the Armed Forces.
Peru’s Congress finally approved the vacancy against Castillo. Thus, the current vice president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, will assume as head of state. Boluarte will be the first President of the country.
