The identity of the person who would have ordered the death of former baseball player David Ortiz remained in the shadows, after the First Collegiate Court of the National District sentenced 10 of the 13 defendants for the act and discharged the alleged mastermind.

The court sentenced Eddy Vladimir Féliz García and Rolfi Ferreira Cruz to 30 years in prison. The latter is the person seen in a video shooting Ortiz at point-blank range and trying to fire a second shot but failed because the pistol jammed. while García is the young man who took him to the Dial Bar and Lounge business in Santo Domingo Este, on Sunday, June 9, 2019, where the attack occurred.

The judges also found guilty Alberto Miguel Rodríguez Mota, sentenced to 20 years in prison; Oliver Moisés Mirabal Acosta and José Eduardo Ciprián Lebrón were sentenced to ten years in prison, while Gabriel Alexander Féliz Vizcaíno was sentenced to nine years.

In addition, Joel Rodríguez de la Cruz was sentenced to six years and six months; Porfirio Allende Dechamps Vásquez (Nene) and Julio César la Hoz were sentenced to five years.

The latter, according to the sentence, “developed very broad relationships in his participation” in the plot, using the evidence that could be demonstrated.

De la Hoz pointed to the discharged Víctor Hugo as the person who contacted him to hire hitmen to execute Sixto David Fernández, to whom the macabre plan was directed, but who was confused with Ortiz.

However, the judges affirmed that although the defendants accuse Victor Hugo, the intercepted videos and conversations do not prove his participation, which is why he was discharged.

Investigations by the Public Ministry attributed the motive for the assassination attempt on Sixto to the fact that Víctor Hugo was very upset because he would have betrayed him to the authorities in alleged drug deals.
