Régimen cubano, memes

#FrankPaísChallenge: Cubans mock the regime on social media

MIAMI, United States. – This weekend the challenge was born #FrankPaísChallenge in Cuban cyberspace, where users have viralized memes that parody a tribute by the regime to clandestine fighter Frank País.

Those responsible for the viral image – a young man lying face down who plays Frank País recently murdered – were the authorities of Santiago de Cuba, who they paid tribute this saturday to the clandestine fighter, shot to death after a denunciation on July 30, 1957.

The event, held in the Callejón del Muro, the place where País was assassinated, was attended by the vice president of the Cuban regime, Ramiro Valdés Menéndez.

“In the presence of the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, we pay heartfelt tribute to Frank País in the Callejón del Muro, the place where he was vilely assassinated by the Batista tyranny on July 30, 1957,” the Santiago government reported in social networks.

“How is it possible that they reach the absurdity of absurdities and none of the survivors of that time is capable of shouting indignantly at such stupidity?” Isabel Soto Mayedo, a Cuban living in Guatemala, commented on Facebook.

Another user assured that “Frank País must be rolled over in his grave from so much embarrassment of others with the paperwork.”

The memes of #FrankPaísChallenge have blown the imagination of Cubans and they happened (or combined) the images inspired by Marianaothe Cuban municipality presented on official television as an area without blackouts or shortages.

“The last spoonful of respect for the Revolution was lost with the #FrankPaísChallenge”, opined on Facebook user Marlon Damian.
