The former Minister of the Interior and former Minister spokesperson for the Government, Francisco Vidal (PPD) addressed this Monday the election of the constitutional advisers, who will be in charge of preparing a new Magna Carta (based on a preliminary draft of the Expert Commission). In this regard, he advocated that the ruling party go on a single list, pointing out that “unity around the President is fundamental.”
The issue of the lists is debated in the two government coalitions, I Approve Dignity (AD) and Socialismo Democrático (SD). From AD they have expressed their intention to go on a single list. In SD, the PPD has expressed doubts about this initiative and defends the idea of two pro-government lists. In the PS they are open to a single list.

“There are some in my party, the majority, I am a minority, who maintain that it is essential to broaden the social base by presenting two lists. I am of the opinion, I insist that I am a minority, that in the current political framework of the Government, unity around the President is essential for political and electoral reasons,” said Vidal in conversation with The Counter in La Clave.
“A differentiation at this minute, carrying two lists, with the respective campaigns, lists that their candidates will tend to differentiate themselves to win citizen support, I think is completely incompatible with the current government framework. And electorally, in a proportional system , if a block is divided and the block in front is united, the certainty that you will serve less conventionally, in this case, is evident”, he added.
Regarding the PPD’s intention to go on the list only with Democratic Socialism -and with the possibility of including other forces, such as the DC-, the former minister pointed out that an “eventual condition” for that list is the incorporation of the PS.
“If the Socialist Party makes the decision to go on a single list, the feasibility of a different list, which would no longer be Democratic Socialism because our older brother is leaving us, I think it is completely unfeasible,” he said.
In turn, he indicated that “if Democratic Socialism believes in one minute that disassociating itself from the Government can be a presidential alternative in three more years, I think it is deeply mistaken.”
“If this government does badly, where Democratic Socialism is involved, the alternative is not one or one of ours. No, no, no. The alternative has a name and surname. President Boric transfers the presidential band to him or to the Evelyn Matthei oh Jose Antonio Kast“, he added.
