France: Macron and Le Pen almost tied for presidential, according to exit poll

The outgoing president of Francethe liberal Emmanuel Macron, and the right-wing extremist Marine Le Pen appear almost tied in votes in the first round of the French presidential elections, each obtaining over 24%, according to the Belgian newspaper on Sunday. The Free Belgium after the first exit poll released by different press agencies.

For Europe PressEmmanuel Macron would take the lead by just over a point with which both would go to the second round to be held on April 24.

According to agency report Ephwhich also quotes that newspaper, the leftist candidate for the presidency of France, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, appears in third position followed by the conservative Valérie Pécresse and the far-right Eric Zemmour.

The first estimates, published by The Free Belgium and other Belgian media this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. local time, are the results of a first exit poll carried out by one of the institutes in charge of these polls.

The Spanish agency adds that for this reason it is necessary to be cautious with the results, since they are only indicative and could change considerably.

Although French law prohibits the dissemination of polls, partial counts or estimates before 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, the same does not happen with foreign media, and in particular the Belgians, who follow the presidential elections in neighboring France with great interest.
