London, EFE.- Working four days a week reduces stress and maintains levels of productivityaccording to a report released today by researchers at the University of Cambridge from a pilot program in 61 UK companies.
The report maintains that during the six months that these organizations reduced the working hours of their employees by 20%, without reducing wages, sick leave fell by 65% and the departure of workers to other companies by 57%.
79% of employees indicated that their “burnout” had been reduced, and 39% said their stress levels had decreased.
The companies that participated in the programme, promoted by the lobby group ‘4 Day’s a Week Campaign’, recorded an average increase of 1.4% in their revenue over that period compared to to the same period of the previous year, reflects the report, led by the Cambridge sociologist Brendan Burchell.
“Prior to this trial, many doubted that we would see an increase in productivity to offset the reduction in man time, but that is exactly what we have seen,” Burchell said.
“Many employees were more than willing to drive improvements themselves. Long meetings with too many people have been reduced or eliminated altogether. The workers were much less inclined to let time pass”, indicated the sociologist.
