Former President of the Senate, Reinaldo Pared, dies

The former president of the Senate, Reinaldo Pared Pérez, died this Thursday night, at 65 years of age.

The information was published by Roberto Rodríguez Marchena, who served as spokesman for the Presidency during the government of Danilo Medina.

Pared Pérez, general secretary ad vitam of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), had been retired from political life since he was diagnosed with cancer in March 2020.

After circulating the information, party colleagues and citizens reacted lamenting the death.

Reinaldo Pared was born in Santo Domingo on September 25, 1956. He was a lawyer, professor and politician.

He joined the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in 1975, where he began as a circus player.

He was climbing in his political career, getting to be elected alderman in the National District City Council during the periods 1986-1990 and 1990-1994, the last cycle in which he was a spokesperson for the Bloque de Regidores of the PLD.

In 1994 he joined the Central Committee of the PLD and since 1999 he was part of the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party.

His years as a legislator

During the periods 1996-1998 and 1998-2002, Reinaldo was a deputy, becoming the spokesperson for the PLD bloc.

While in 2006 he was elected senator of the National District by the PLD), a position in which he was re-elected for the periods 2010-2016 and 2016-2020.

For health reasons, in 2020 he did not appear again in the elections as a candidate for senator of the National District.

Reinaldo held the Presidency of the Senate of the Dominican Republic on several occasions.
